Rough Demo Reel

Hey everyone!

So I lied about updating every other week or so.... anyways

Just wanted to update my work with you guys.
Here's my Animation Reel l I created for Disney Talent Program. Im planning to make it a lot better than it is now. So please critique/comment. Any feedback would be great!

Also if u're interested, I threw together a very super quick FX reel for Dreamworks in case Lawrence (lead FX artist) had time to take a look at our stuff. Sorta good that he didn't, cuz I would have looked bad. (yes there's no sound/music)

Okay I'll update again

I've decided to update my blog again just so show that I'm still alive.

Currently I'm working on a school group animated short called "Buki" - directed by Howard Cheng & KiJeon Nam
Due to a contract I recently signed, I cannot leak too much information about the story is about. All you guys need to know is "Sushi... Buki"... because it rhymes. haha

So look forward to it being done around May/June.

Everybody's in the group has some really great stuff developed/developing. So I have to try to be up to their standard and not ruin their scene w/ my crappy work.

I'm currently 1 of the 2 FX artist in the group.

Here's 1 of the special FX scene I'm working on. I don't know what I did but this was one of the better test. According to my director, this scene is 80% completed.

Software: 3d Studio MAX (Fume FX plugin)
Kitchen/ Fridge (modeled by Willie)

I did a few more tests but I seem to have went backward in progression. haha.

I'll try to update at least every other week. So I hope you look forward to it.

Finally some 3d! DUQ

Merry Christmas everyone! As a special treat, I have promised you guys, so here are some of my 3D stuff.
This is the character I rigged in Jesse's class. Dialogues continue to kick my butt so it's not perfect.
Here are my dialogue tests.

I actually started with Moom first because I thought I couldn't finish the dialogue in time.

But I finished early and had time to spare, so that's when I did the dialogue with my character. The dialogue is actually sequential. So the Duq Dialogue goes 1st then the Moom.

I got caught up in dialogue so much i decided to add a little more.
Here's what I added on so far.

Now it's time to play "Guess where the dialogue is from?"
.............
the answer is

RUSH HOUR!

The Dancing Green

With finals over, I've finally have time to update my blog.
Here's a character I created in my flash class.
Just wanted to play around with simple shapes.
Here's the turn around of it.

And here it is doing different poses. The object was to not create the pose from scratch but just rearrange what was already created from the turnaround. That would explain why his face expression didn't change.

Then had to do a dialogue test and a walk cycle w/ attitude for it.
So I combined the two. Dialogue and walk cycles are not my strong point so if u can give me any suggestions to make it better that'll be great.

more flash stuff

This week, Nickelodeon reps had a panel discussion at fullerton, and it made me feel sad. haha. I found out they don't hire animators in 2d or 3d. NooOOO
So that crossed 1 of the companies I can work w/ in the future haha.

Anyways, the stuff this week isn't that great. It was just me testing out how to do special effects on flash, so there wasn't much character animation.
and then the other is just an animated prop w/o turning it into a character.

There are major flaws in the animation that i need to work out, plus it's kinda dull. I really wanted 2 add on more to it, but then time just ran out.

I will add on/ modify them later on when I have time.
It's gonna be an intense animating month for me, so some of the stuff i post today and later on this month might not be to great. But bear w/ me.

I need to start animating my lift test in 3d soon. So you guys will finally get to see some 3d stuff. yay! Excitement.

Here are they are:

Animating the old fashion way... on Flash

Sorry I haven't been posting. But last week was a long boring work week. It wasn't even fun work. I couldn't believe I had to storyboard for the rigging, animation history, AND flash class.
Well here's what I worked on for the flash class this week.

The 1st assignment was to do an animatic. Which I didn't like because I was hoping to take the flash class to get away from storyboarding and more into animating. So I made the most of it and just messed around w/ camera movement instead... then... I got the urge to animate a scene. maan that was fun. It's not done, because I was just making up choreo out of my head as I go along. Then I came to the conclusion after animating that sequence... I couldn't finish the whole animatic in time and would have nothing to show for class. So I had to stop and postponed it. And work on the other assignment that was due.

So for the other project, we had to do the good old bounce test using the guide tool in flash. Then throw in a creature/character. Well apparently I misinterpret his directions or something. because a lot of people in class had jumping critters instead... while I was one of the rare few that had a regular ball bounce.
It was 3am, and I thought that it would finished it fast.... but I was wrong. I end up not finishing that as well haha. I will probably finish the ending and tweak some stuff later on.
But this is all there is for now.

WARNING: The following animations are very rough and can cause seizure and possibly blindness from the bad line quality and animation. Watch at own risk...... you have been warned.

It was fun to traditionally animate again. I completely forgot about timing and such and just draw at first.. but then I realize that I was animating stupidly haha. I also forgot how to do a run cycle... so that was a good refresher course.

more to come soon... I promise to upload my 3d stuff one day.

Text Flash Animation

This flash assignment was basically to create a text animation. I was going to do one base on special effects but then I found a pretty cartoony text that I wanted to play with. You can tell the parts where i struggled and messed up, and also some troubleshooting I could not solve. The animation is inspired by pixar's intro as well as a scene from the Simpsons. Sorry I didn't add any sound.

side note: animation had little to no in between, thus the choppiness. sorry

EDIT: okay so... i keep having a lot of trouble uploading a converted flash movie file that plays correctly. I think this works will finally work. and pay no attention to the watermark haha.
Enjoy!
